New Crane Standard,
Qualified Rigging
and Qualified Crane Signaler
OSHA recently issued
the New Crane and Derricks Final Rule, Subpart CC, which requires
all riggers to be “Qualified”; and crane signalers to be
“trained”. Thomas Safety
Solutions has developed this "New Crane Standard, Qualified Rigger and
Qualified Crane Signalers Seminar", which
is designed to
deliver the knowledge requirements for Qualified Riggers, as
defined by 1926.1401, and
Qualified Crane Signaling personnel, as per 1926.1428, to participants.
Participants will learn to calculate weights, load tensions
on slings, how to determine weight functions and proper rigging
practices and techniques.
Course Objectives:
The
qualified rigger participant will learn to do the
following:
-
Calculate load weight and determine
load center of gravity;
-
Calculate stress angles and determine the
safe working load;
-
Select proper hitch, sling, rigging
hardware to use and determine safe working load;
-
Inspection of the equipment prior to
use;
-
Control the load and operation;
-
Control the lift site and the cranes
area of operation.
The Crane Signaler participant will learn and be able
to:
-
Provide a general overview of crane
operations and limitations;
-
Describe and demonstrate the standard
crane hand signals;

Explain and demonstrate the correct
use of voice signal communication;

new signals;
-
Describe the basic safety practices
for a crane signal person.
At the completion of the class the
student must be able to do the following via final
examination and evaluations:
-
Calculate load weight and determine
load center of gravity;
-
Select proper hitch, sling, rigging
hardware to use and determine safe working load;
-
Inspection of the equipment prior to
use;
-
Control the load and operation;
-
Control the lift site and the cranes
area of operation;
-
Meet the “Crane Signal Person”
requirements.
And
much, much more!
Total Hours: 8 Hours
There is an
exam at the end of this course for the Rigger portion, and an exam
and practical skills evaluation for the Signaler portion, all of which requires a minimum score of
70% or better to pass. Upon successful course
completion, participants will receive completions cards, certifying
that they have met the requirements for both Riggers and Signalers
as per 1926.1401 and 1926.1428.
