Excavation and Trenching Competent Person Course
Course Description:
This Excavation and Trenching Competent Person Course is intended for individuals designated as The Excavation Competent Person, by their employer, during excavation and trenching activities, which may include managers, supervisors, lead workers or operators. It provides a fundamental understanding of OSHA's Excavation and Trenching Standards for the Competent Person. This Course will cover OSHA's Excavation Standard.
Course Objective:
Upon successful completion of the Course, participants will be familiar with regulations, requirements and related issues; understand the responsibilities of "The Excavation Competent Person"; be able to recognize existing and predictable conditions that are hazardous or dangerous; be familiar with soils analysis and soils classification systems. This Course is designed to provide the necessary training and safety awareness component to meet and exceed the requirements of "The Excavation Competent Person" as defined in OSHA's Excavation Standard.

Responsibilities of The Excavation Competent Person;
Excavation Hazards and Control Measures;
Access and Egress Requirements for Excavations;
Identifying and Controlling Hazardous Atmospheres in Excavations;
Correct Inspections and Documentation Procedures;
Working Safely Around Potentially Deadly Underground Utilities;
Protective Systems Requirements;
Soils Analysis Techniques and Classifications;
Training Requirements for Those In or Near Excavations;
Job Planning;
Total Hours: 8 Hours
There is an exam at the end of this Course, which requires a minimum score of 70% or better to pass. Upon successful Course completion, participants will receive a certificate and a Course completion card from Thomas Safety Solutions.
